Tasting notes

Impressively dark in the glass. The nose bursts with chocolate and leather. On the palate, the texture is rich and velvety, building in complexity with layers of black and red fruit, and a hint of choclolate. The finish is powerful and long.

The Ancient Stone Vineyard (The Rocks District AVA is a sub-AVA of the Walla Walla Valley AVA) and is located entirely in Oregon.  The vineyard like many others in the distriict is strewn with volcanic stones that have been shaped by millions of years of riverine action in an ancient riverbed that is now dried up.  The soil in between the stones is a mixture of sand and silt. The impact of the basalt stones has turned the soil black.  The combination of the well draining soils and stones that go down 60+ feet create a truly unique environment for grape growing and produce wines that are distinctive in their "rocks" character.

The 2023 vintage in the Rocks District AVA was marked by excellent quality, ripe fruit, balanced acidity and rich textures - this is especially true for Syrah.  Lower yields produced more concentrated flavors. 2023 wines will be great for drinking now or cellaring for 5-10 years.
